Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, regarded by Muslims as a holy month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. It commemorates the month in which the Quran, the Islamic holy book, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. During Ramadan, adult Muslims are required to fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from eating, drinking, smoking, and sinful behavior. The fast, known as Sawm, is a time for self-discipline, spiritual growth, increased devotion, and worship. It is also a time for charity, with many Muslims engaging in acts of kindness and supporting those in need. Ramadan culminates in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, a festival marking the end of the fasting period, where communal prayers, feasting, and giving of gifts are customary. The exact timing of Ramadan shifts annually due to the lunar calendar, making it occur in different seasons over the years.
