Футбол (football) is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score by getting the ball into the opposing team’s goal. Players primarily use their feet to move the ball, but can also use other parts of the body except their arms and hands, with the exception of the goalkeeper, who can use their hands within the penalty area. Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The sport is known for its global popularity and is played at both amateur and professional levels, with major international tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and continental competitions like the UEFA European Championship. Football has significant cultural and social importance in many countries, often regarded as a national pastime.
